SEGL launches semester program in South Africa!

Dear friends of SEGL:

I write with exciting news:

SEGL is launching a semester program in South Africa!

Our partner and host in this endeavor is the African Leadership Academy, one of the world’s premiere educational institutions. ALA is a highly selective two-year diploma program for young African leaders aged 16-19. ALA has a history of hosting outstanding American students and providing them with rigorous classes and a transformational experience.

SEGL at ALA will open for the Spring 2020 semester. This means the opportunity is available to current sophomores, including those who are already considering an application to SEGL’s DC program.  The priority application deadline for SEGL at ALA is this February 15th. (If you or anyone you know might be interested in applying, please let us know!) More details about the program are available here.

I am also excited to announce that Mairéad O‘Grady, SEGL’s Associate Head of School for External Affairs, will lead SEGL at ALA. Those of you who know Mairéad will immediately understand why she is the perfect choice for this opportunity: her experience, wisdom, enthusiasm, and love for Africa are unequaled. We will miss Mairéad in DC, but we’re thrilled to have someone of her caliber ready to lead such an important initiative.

In the coming weeks we will share more information about this transformative partnership. As always, our community is our greatest source of strength, and we look forward to hearing your feedback and your ideas for ensuring SEGL at ALA is every bit as special as SEGL in DC.

Sincerely,

Noah Bopp
