Sam is the Ethics and Leadership fellow for the SEGL in Johannesburg program. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, where he studied Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology, captained the Ultimate Frisbee team, and taught environmental science at a nearby elementary school. He also spent a semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh. After graduating, Sam worked as a product manager at Capital One before reconnecting with his love for teaching and the outdoors at Apogee Adventures. There, he led a summer college essay writing program for high school seniors in the woods of Maine, seeking to foster community through shared vulnerability and exploration of the natural world. When he's not working with students, Sam enjoys creative nonfiction writing, playing the guitar, and engaging in mindfulness practices.
